More Seriously

587 Squadron is a demake/clone of Zone 66 (or, if you want to go further back, Raid on Bungeling Bay), a 1993 DOS game published by Epic that I am very fond of.  Fittingly, the demake is in Epic's own ZZT.

The action is quite fast-paced for a ZZT game and may lag when played in a browser (Chrome more than Firefox). For the best experience, I recommend downloading the game in the zip below. It contains all you need to play it on a Windows machine - unzip it to the folder of choice, run ZETA86.EXE and then select 587SQN with W.  If things are too fast, try playing the game on Easy mode.

As of July 2021, the full version of 587 Squadron is now up to play! See the devlog for more details. The downloads have been updated accordingly. The old demo (587SQNJ.ZZT) is still available for download for completeness' sake.

Getting around in ZZT

To get started, select (Keyboard) and (C)olor after starting the game and then press P to play. Move using the arrow keys. Once in the game, you can pause by pressing P and unpause by moving.

For more information on ZZT as a whole, I recommend visiting the Museum of ZZT. You can find more ZZT games on itch.io with the 'zzt' tag in the game information section.

Hi, is it ok to distribute this game on the DOS Game Jam Demo Disc? It will be a freely downloadable ISO image with games submitted to the DOS Game Jam with a small menu to select games.

Yes, this sounds good.
